What kind of moth was this?
Last spring in may I found a caterpillar that was a bright, almost florescent green. It had no markings, no hair, and it’s eyes were small and black if I remember right. When it was scared it curled into a ball. I raised it into adulthood and when it emerged it looked gorgeous.
It was on the small side, a mousy brown, and had tawny colored triangular patterns all over it’s wings. It was not a Gold Triangle (Hypsopygia costalis) though.
You seem knowledgeable so you would know that a skipper is not a moth, since they rest with their wings erect.
I checked my moth guide book, and also my moth pest guide, and there is nothing that matches your description except for Hypsopygia costalis. It would help if we knew what area of the country you live in.
Perhaps it is in the Looper family? Most have green larvae:
