Finding Space For Your Kids’ Stuff In A Small Kid’s Bedroom
Children’s rooms are typically the smaller bedrooms in the house. This can make for quite a bit of clutter. Children tend to collect quite a few toys and small items. One the quickest ways to save space in a bedroom is with the bed.
For two children sharing a room, bunk beds are always the most obvious choice. There are other choices as well. Trundle beds are an option as one bed rolls beneath the other. A loft bed will leave the entire floor space open for use. Two of them can be used. These can be purchased or made.
To include a desk in the room without taking up more space you can get a bunk bed with a desk built in. Some of these have shelves, desk, or even a small closet space. Loft beds with desk can be purchased with the desk built into either the foot or head of the bed. This takes up even less space than the bunk bed.
Having enough storage is always an issue. With kids if there is not enough space things start ending up on the floor, and behind and under the bed. They then spread to other areas of the house. Storage that is stackable is the answer. Everything goes vertical. Bins made of clear plastic are the top option. The kids are able to look into them and see if what they want is in it without taking it out. Ones with lids can fit on shelves to keep things organized. Open front bins make it even easier. Since all things have a place kids will be able to help with keeping their room organized.
The space underneath the bed can be utilized for more than dust bunnies and shoes that go missing. Beds are available that have drawers built in underneath. Much like the trundle bed these drawers slide out from under the bed. Depending on the height of the bed they can be deep and may be one long drawer or four smaller drawers. There are plastic storage bins that can fit under a normal bed. These would be used for those things that aren’t used often.
A great space saving tool are vacuum sealed storage bags. These things shrink a drawer full of clothes down to just a few inches. The same is able to be done with a quilt, comforter or blankets. Put away all the winter clothing and store them at the top of the closet and reduce clothing clutter.
A shoe organizer that fits over the door can hold so many items besides shoes. It will always be useful no matter the child’s age. It can be used for their collections of balls, rocks, shells, buttons, etc. All their art supplies can be kept in one place and each item has its own pocket. Even the paper can fit in these pockets. Each pocket can hold different colored paper of different sizes.
An all in one option for saving space is the loft bed with desk. It has the desk attached already. A bookshelf and all the stackable storage can go underneath it. The shoe organizer can hang from the side opposite the desk. All your storage and organization in one space.
