Can you use stained glass sheets in mosaics instead of the smaller glass tiles?
I am new to making mosaics (supplies are ordered, not here yet)and I didn’t know if the stained glass sheets are used in mosaics or not. I am excited about starting this new hobby and have no clue what I am doing. If you have any ideas to save money, you can add the tips here.

Mosaic images use small pieces of glass, stone, or gem stone and modern stained glass is fine for the purpose. Unlike fused glass there is no problem of incompatibility. Exposure of sharp edges can be a problem.
I am a bit concerned about your statement “smaller glass tiles” which suggests you want to use bigger pieces of stained glass – the problem here is how they are mounted and whether they are walked on. Unless well supported, walking on 2″ or bigger glass is likely to break it. Also, there is the factor that what is mounting the glass will become visible through the glass and mute the color. Many small edges sparkle, pieces may not.
Old time mosaic was mounted with grout on an opaque surface.
