Dinosaurs are among the most fascinating creatures ever, but some apocalyptic creationists who believe strongly in a six thousand year old earth also believe that the fossil record is not one of life’s evolution but an antediluvian struggle between the forces of light and darkness!
Yes, religious fundamentalists can bay some very extraordinary principles but they can make for great summer hit movies. With the right special effects, such a story may reap enormous profits on the big screen: Imagine “Paradise Lost” with rebellious fallen angels in the form of dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures!
Such a view was once espoused by the former Worldwide Church of God of the late Herbert W. Armstrong, a previous advertising man turned end-times preacher. Now recognized as a cult, among the organization’s many strange convictions were those holding the U. S. and Great Britain, together with some northwestern western european states like those comprising Scandinavia, to be the latter-day descendants of the legendary Ten Lost Tribes of Israel. Members of this church also trusted in keeping saturday as the Sabbath, in common with 7th Day Adventists, and also believed in keeping the so-called Mosaic dietary laws.
According to the apocalyptic doctrine once promoted by this organization through its free magazine “The Plain Truth” and its diverse radio and television programs, Anglo-Saxon-Nordic races were the true inheritors of the Abrahamic promise of worldly might and power and would confront a western european Union bent on their destruction. Armageddon was to be between the armies of Christ on earth in Jerusalem against an array fielded by China, Russia, and the european Union on Mount Megiddo in Israel.
This curious church was once extremely popular but has since its founder’s death smashed into competing groups also, they note, foretold by Biblical prediction. Whatever the reality, it is certainly a weird story worth showing.
