Can data stored in a hard disk reduce a computer’s speed?
I have this doubt, coz my off.asst always asks me to free up some space in my hard disk, so that it can increase the PC’s speed. Is it Right?
There is a file in your pc that almost everything runs through. It has something to do with your memory, but it doesn’t really affect the speed of the computer, unless you are almost complete out of space on the hard drive with the operating system. The swap file on your computer acts as a temporary memory space holder, which your computer will need to access, like memory. If you have barely enough room on your hard drive, the swap file will have to move around pieces of your file in smaller chunks, creating more lag (reducing speed)
Dont get confused between hard drive and memory. Hard drive is where you store files, memory is where your computer takes your files such as word documents and run them through your memory to run, but doesn’t permanently save them, until you choose to save them on your hard drive.
ie. if you typed something in notepad, you can see it, that is in memory. If you dont save it and turn off your computer, it goes away because it was only saved in memory. If you do save it and turn off your computer, you can get it back again because it was saved on your hard drive.
