People from all walks of life are interested with things that are beautiful and aesthetically made. This can be attributed to the fact that people are artistic and social beings. With the mention of arts, the word craft usually comes to mind. Crafts are items usually made with the work of hands. Thus, crafting is a way of making tangible things out of concrete materials and the human factor of coming up with good ideas to capture the interests of other people.
Crafts are excellent artworks. There are various materials that are necessary in order to come up with good works. Examples of effective artworks are greeting cards that catch not just the eyes of the receiver but also the heart. In making cards, one needs to be creative and be resourceful in gathering the materials. Aside from gathering the things needed, one should also have a concept on his mind. To craft does not end with having papers, glues, a pair of scissors and ribbons. As previously mentioned, to craft a greeting card for example, has something to do with the human appeal to emotion and with the use of the human hand. While it may coincidentally happen that the receiver might have the same interest as the person doing the crafting, this is not always the case. Thus, a person who really knows how to craft considers some universal factors to ensure that the final output (in this case, a greeting card) will be able to express the message from the sender to the receiver. In order to come up with a finished product, there are some essentials that a person should consider in order to craft effectively. These may include colour harmony, the age of the target receiver and the theme of the occasion. While it cannot be generalized that all males like blue and all girls love pink, it would be a lot safer to craft a pink-dominated card if the target receiver is a girl. Also, the age should also be considered. A kid who celebrates his seventh birthday will not really appreciate a greeting card that shows an image of a journeying man. He would most likely want to see Barney or Spider Man. Also, to craft effectively requires knowledge of the occasion for which a greeting card is being made. While some symbols are relative, there are symbols that are universal. For example, a star is for Christmas and a heart is for Valentine’s Day.
There are no general rules in crafting. However, crafting entails a lot of open-mindedness and willingness of a person to explore and be creative. If one is successful in doing this artistic work, the crafts are sure to be appreciated by different types of people.
