How to say ‘No’ to friends who like to borrow your prescious books on craft?
I love doing crafts like smocking and embroidery, silk ribbon etc..Whenever I travel overseas, I will buy those books and sometimes I purchase them through the internet.
With the currencies exchange not to my favour and high postage fees too. Those book are really prescious to me. I have church friends who are into this craft too, they told me those books are very expensive to buy, they will always approach me to loan them the books. How to tell them ‘No’ without hurting your frienship.
I have told the ladies that those books are my personal collections and I really treasure them very much.I’ve promised my daughter that I will pass them down when I’m old.
By allowing them to do copies will spoil the binding and left with the folded marks.
I’ve been giving free lesson for them. I feel that they are taking advantage of me.
I REALLY UNDERSTAND AS I HAVE PURCHASED OVER 100 BOOKS OVER THE INTERNET ON THESE SAME SUBJECTS, I REALLY DON’T MIND ALLOWING SOMEONE TO BROWSE AND GET IDEAS, BUT IF THEY LIKE THE BOOK LIKE I DID INVEST SOME TIME.
MOST BOOKS CAN BE BOUGHT USED. OR THEY CAN GO TO THE PUBLIC LIBRARY. I BET THEY DON’T HAVE TO BE REMINDED TO RETURN THOSE.
AS FAR AS COPYING, THATS EXACTLY WHAT I DO WITH THE LIBRARY BOOKS. YOU HAVE TO BE CAREFUL NOT TO BREAK THE BINDINGS.
BUT IF YOU LOVE YOUR BOOKS, JUST EXPLAIN THAT THEY ARE COLLECTORS ITEMS AND YOU CAN LOOK BUT NOT TAKE THEM AWAY. AND THAT YOU CONSTANTLY USE THEM FOR INSPIRATION.
