Speaker Training Tips – Getting Booked to Speak
The fastest way to grow your network as a speaker is to get booked to speak at many events. So how does one go about getting booked? There are many things you must have in place before getting booked, and there are many things you should create in order to easily get booked to speak. Here are some great speaker training tips on what to do in order to get booked to speak at an event.
Before you even begin the process of attempting to get booked as a speaker, there are a few things you should do. First off, you should have a strong online presence. People will want to look you up to see what you’re all about; a cleanly designed website is a must. Also people want to see how connected you are socially. A smart idea is to have at least a facebook profile. For extra brownie points you should also have a fan page where your fans can “like” you. If prospects can see that thousands of people are already following you on facebook, or other important social media sites like twitter, they will see that you are professional, and that people are interested in you, and could potentially allow you to speak at one of their events.
Another smart idea to help you get booked as a speaker is to have your own media kit. Media kits are pretty standard in what goes into them, but most importantly your media kit should be organized. An event promoter is highly likely to skip over your media kit if it is disorganized. Also, your media kit must stand out. Can you imagine the hundred of media kits promoter see in a year. You must make yours stand out above the rest in order to even be considered to be booked for an event.
In addition to your media kit, you should also have a demo video. In your demo you should include footage of you speaking at events, or footage of yourself in the press. Perhaps you were interviewed for a news segment for your expertise on a certain topic, be sure to include this in your demo video, as it will add credibility to you, and quite possible get you booked. You might want to also include a couple of testimonials in your demo. This will add even more credibility, and possibly increase your chances of getting booked.
Another great way to increase your chances of getting booked are to just give a great speech. It is likely that if you give a great speech, a promoter will want you back at their event the next time. It’s even quite likely that there are other promoters in the audience that would want you to speak at their events. Give a great speech, and always remember to contact the promoter to thank them for having you at their event. Building relationships with promoters will increase your chances of getting booked for a follow up event.
Finally, to increase your chances of getting booked to speak, you should have a great product. Having a product to go along with your speech adds to your status as a speaker; not only do you have information to share, but you also have a great product that will help a lot of people. Producers of events also like it if you have a product to sell, because they make money off your sales.
Getting booked as a speaker can seem like a difficult task, but as long as you are a great speaker, have a great product, getting booked shouldn’t be difficult. With these great speaker training tips, just remember that you want to be credible to those who are booking you. This requires an online and social presence, along with a great demo video and media kit. Finally building relationships with producers and promoters is very important for your career as a speaker.
