Can, any veterinarians or vet Asst. set the story straight for me as to why do cats lick humans?
This question has been bothering me lol ..so here it goes..
My cat licks my face, hands, arms and does the same to my husband. I heard and read a couple different answers from msg boards and friends. 1) cats show love and affection in that manner since their moms would lick them at a very young age so its a way of showing love and contentment. 2) cats do that to lick off unapproving scents such as, perfumes and also enjoy the salty taste of human skin 3) cats feel they are cleaning /grooming you the same way they groom themselves.
I find it hard to believe cats remember what their moms did when they were even to young to open their eyes. Also I notice my cat (who’s 1 &1/2) licks my arms only when she’s grooming her self so I was leaning toward the opinion that cats lick because they want to groom their owners . Thanks everyone 
If a momma cat did not clean her babies constantly they would be filthy. So a cat is licked frequently as a baby and associates that with pleasure. When it grooms and cleans it person, it becomes an bonding action between cat and owner. You are her person and she will help you clean yourself. I have seven cats and they often have grooming session to reinforce their bonds.
