How to make glass bottle art?
I want to make labels for a garden. You know, “Peas,” “Carrots,” etc. I want them to be flattened glass bottles with the lettering inside, like the ones at craft fairs. I found plenty online about flattening the bottles, but nothing about how people get the designs on the inside. How an I put lettering into the glass bottle I melt/flatten?
I’ve missed that aspect of craft fairs, but can tell you that to survive the sagging heat of 1250-1400F, the “paint” for the labels has to be true enamel (not enamel paint, but a form of glaze which is glass related) Normally, I would say the labels would have to be stenciled or silk screened onto compatible glass, slipped through the neck and then flattening done. There is another method which involves ceramic based decals, like those used on blueware etc, for designs. If the decals could be placed in the bottle going in curved and then flattened, the print could be larger than the neck of the bottle. I would think it would far easier and more decorative to buy compatible clear and colored flat glass and proper enamels from Thompson Enamels and paint the labels on one surface and fuse the clear to the colored to make protected labels.
